Interpreter and translator for notarial deeds in Italy
When one of the parties does not speak Italian, the signing cannot go ahead without an interpreter. We provide one for the notary office, together with the sworn translation of the deed and the supporting documents.
We provide the interpreter for signing a deed before an Italian notary: a qualified person at the office on the day of the signing, assisting the foreign party throughout the reading of the deed. When the deed also calls for witnesses, we provide the second person as well. We also prepare the sworn translation of the deed and of the documents attached to it. Tell us the date, place and language of the signing: we confirm availability within two hours.
When an interpreter is needed at the signing
It applies to any deed where one of the parties does not speak Italian, and these are more common than people think.
- Property purchase: a foreign buyer or seller, living in Italy or abroad.
- Mortgage and banking deeds connected with buying the house.
- Gifts and family deeds between people of different nationalities.
- Setting up a company, share transfers and corporate deeds with foreign shareholders.
- Powers of attorney granted by foreign citizens.
- Acceptance of inheritance and succession deeds with heirs abroad.
Whether a deed requires an interpreter, and whether witnesses are needed alongside, is for the notary to decide on the basis of the deed being drawn up. We provide the people the notary asks for.
What we provide
- The interpreter at the notary office, present for the entire reading of the deed, with all the time it takes.
- A second person as witness, when the deed requires it: interpreter and witness must be two different people.
- The sworn translation of the deed, when a written version in the party's language is requested.
- Translation of the attached documents: identity, civil status, powers of attorney, company records, foreign certificates.
- Apostille and legalization for documents coming from abroad or that must be valid outside Italy.
How to book, step by step
- Write to us with the details of the signing Date, time, place and the party's language. If the date is not fixed yet, that is fine: we plan ahead.
- Get confirmation and a quote We reply within two hours with availability and cost, before you commit to the client.
- Send us the draft deed As soon as it is ready. The interpreter arrives prepared on the terminology and on the names of the parties, so the reading does not stall.
- On the day of the signing The interpreter is at the office at the agreed time, with an identity document for the record.
- After the deed If needed, we deliver the sworn translation of the deed and of the related documents.
For notary offices
Finding a qualified interpreter who is genuinely available on the chosen date is often the most awkward part of these signings, and it always comes up at short notice. Offices that work with us regularly get rates agreed once and valid for every assignment that follows, with a single point of contact and an invoice.
Setting it up costs nothing and commits you to no volume: it takes one phone call, and it is ready for the first signing that needs it.
If you are buying a house in Italy
Signing a deed you cannot read is the most unpleasant part of the purchase. That is exactly what the interpreter is for: they explain, in your language, what you are signing, clause by clause, and can stop the reading as often as you like.
If the notary has asked you for an interpreter and you do not know where to find one, write to us yourself: we deal with the office directly, so you are not stuck in the middle.
The documents we translate for the deed
Besides attending the signing, we prepare the file of documents that goes with the deed.
- Legal and notarial deeds, powers of attorney, articles of association and company records.
- Identity documents and passports of the foreign party.
- Birth certificates and marriage certificates, where the matrimonial property regime matters.
- Residence certificates and family status records.
- Divorce decrees, where they affect ownership of the property.
Every translation is sworn before the Court and valid before any Italian office.
Languages
We attend signings in Romanian, Moldovan, Russian, Ukrainian and English. For Cyrillic we spell names exactly as in the passport: on a notarial deed a name that does not match is a serious problem.
Cost and notice
The cost of attending the signing depends on how long it takes, the language and the place; translating the documents is calculated separately, as explained on the pricing page. The quote is free and arrives within two hours.
On notice the rule is simple: the earlier the better. We often cover short-notice requests too, but a date given a few days ahead lets us assign the interpreter best suited to the subject of the deed.
